At only 48 pages long, Yummi Yoghurt: A First Taste of Stock Market Investment is a very deliberately short, easy-to-read book by successful investor Lord John Lee of Trafford, proclaimed as Britain’s first Isa millionaire, designed to give young children a flavour of the world of investing.
Consigning investment jargon to the bin, the book follows the journey of a fictional yoghurt business called Yummi Yoghurt to flotation, offering bite-sized lessons on why a growing business may consider becoming a publicly quoted company and factors that cause the prices of shares to rise and fall. Lord Lee leverages his experiences as a longstanding investor to lift the (yoghurt!) lid on investing.
Lord Lee first rose to prominence as a politician after entering Parliament as a Conservative MP in 1978. He later became minister for defence procurement in 1983, minister for employment in 1986 and minister for tourism in 1987. In 2001, he crossed the floor to join the Liberal Democrats. He was made a life peer as Baron Lee of Trafford in 2006 and has served on a number of committees in the Lords.
Lord Lee is also well known for his Isa exploits. He chronicled his successes in an autobiography entitled “How to make a million – slowly” which was released in 2013.
