Who would have thought that getting caravan insurance could have been such an eye opener! I thought that my caravan would be covered by my car insurance but as it turns out it’s not, mainly because you do not actually need to have your caravan insured – although you do have to be insured third party if you plan to toe it anywhere which as it is a touring caravan might be a necessity.
Upon a little research, I did find out that the average caravan can cost anywhere from £5,000 to £20,000 pounds. Apparently, I am not the only one to have researched this as a few (many) unscrupulous individuals have cottoned on to this and now the UK sees over 5000 caravans stolen every year – that is a lot of money and a lot of ruined holidays!
In the current climate, not insuring my mobile (yes, I consider myself a silver surfer) and losing that would be pretty disastrous so any caravan stolen and it not being insured might prove just too much. As someone who’s been around for a quite a few years, it’s nice to see my age helps to lower my premiums with specialist mature caravan insurance policies. Saying that, experience tells me best to secure and put valuables out of sight. Prevention is always better then cure. Some things are just irreplaceable.
Right, rant over. Since I have all my paperwork all sorted, now to plan my spring bank holiday, any suggestions on where I could go for a quiet caravan holiday?
