Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so it is time to start looking for gifts for that special someone.

What’s the deal exactly?

Flowers

One of the most popular romantic gestures on Valentine’s Day is to send flowers.

Marks and Spencer is selling a dozen red roses for the bargain price of £20 – with free delivery.

If you want to make an even grander gesture, Lidl is selling 100 roses for £25.

Asda has lots offers on flowers, starting from £2.00 for a bunch of roses.

At the other end of the spectrum, Waitrose has a number of bundles to choose from, ranging from £25 to £175. If you fancy splashing out the store is offering a £90 gift set which includes a dozen red roses and Champagne.

Staying in

Staying in can be just as romantic as going out, so why not celebrate at home?

ASDA’s Valentine’s Day meal deal has plenty of options for just £15 - available until 14 February.

The meal includes a starter, a main course, side dishes, a dessert and a drink.

There is plenty to choose from, including tempura prawns, beef wellington, smoked salmon, stuffed chestnut mushrooms and Prosecco.

Marks and Spencer has upgraded its 'Dine in for £10' offer especially for Valentine’s Day.

It now costs £20 and includes a starter, main course, dessert, box of chocolates and a bottle of bubbly.

Starters include camembert with chutney and vegan sweet potato falafels, while the mains include turkey paupiettes, seabass fillets and Valentine’s heart peppercorn steak pies. It is available from 12 to 16 of February and there is also a vegan menu.

Tesco also has a special three-course meal bundle for £20.

You can mix and match 28 products, giving you over 30,000 different combinations of starter, mains, sides, desserts and drinks. Drinks include champagne, wine and Prosecco.

Why should I care?

Whether it is flowers or a romantic evening at a restaurant, Valentine’s Day can be an expensive business, but if you shop around you can find some great deals out there.

What’s the catch?

When it comes to eating in and eating out you are limited by the options on the set menu.

What other options do I have?

Rather than spending money with one of the chains listed, try local restaurants in your area to see if any are running special Valentine’s Day deals.

You can also read the weekly updated Moneywise Cheap Eats guide to see the best restaurant offers which are unrelated to Valentine’s Day.

Where can I find out more?
