NatWest customers report widespread failure of debit card payments

NatWest customers have taken to Twitter to express frustration that their debit card payments have been declined.

Many of the complaints emanate from abroad – with summer season in full swing many people are on holiday.

Moneywise has approached NatWest for an explanation and the bank says customers' cards should now be working again. The banks says a 'small number' of NatWest and RBS customers were unable to use debit cards for two hours this morning. Credit cards and cash machines were unaffected.

An RBS spokesperson says: “Debit card payments are now being processed as normal. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. No customers will be left of pocket as a result of this issue.”
