If you’re looking for a weekend activity with the kids or grandkids, consider taking them to an open farm near you this Sunday.
What’s the deal exactly?
Visit one of over 1,000 farms this Sunday for LEAF Open Farm Sunday, an annual event where farms around the country open to the public.
Why should I care?
Farming and agriculture are an integral part of the economy and farmers work hard to provide food for the nation.
Open Farm Sunday is designed to help educate the public about their work, and a great way to help kids understand where their food comes from.
Activities that farms will be offering include machinery displays, tractor and trailer rides, demonstrations, nature walks and more.
What’s the catch?
You’ll most likely need a car to visit most farms as public transport access will generally be limited in rural areas.
Most farms will be free to enter but a small minority (5%) will charge between £1 and £10 for entry.
What are the other options?
If you’re looking for another country day out for free, consider the Ramblers' website, which offers a selection of country walking routes.
Where can I find out more?
Visit the Open Farm website for details and how to find your local open farm.
