Regular concert-goers may want to consider getting a Barclaycard credit card, thanks to a set of new perks.
The credit card provider has launched a range of benefits aimed directly at concert and festival lovers.
Barclaycard says that with its partners Live Nation and the Academy Music Group, customers can now get 5% instant cashback on more than 3,500 live music events each year.
Barclaycard says that part of the reason why it has introduced these new perks is after witnessing a 10.1% year-on-year increase on live entertainment spending in 2017, reflecting the growth of the ‘experience economy’.
Customers will also be eligible for exclusive pre-sales for several high-profile festivals, plus 10% cashback on those tickets too.
Barclaycard says that Barclaycard credit card users will be able to take advantage of this perk at festivals such as British Summer Time Hyde Park, Latitude, Download, Citadel, Lovebox, Creamfields, RiZE, as well as the Leeds and Reading and Isle of Wight festivals.
They will also be able to buy tickets ahead of general sale, accessing tickets to festivals before anyone else. Customers will also benefit from 5% off food and drink at O2 academy venues.
Any customer with a Barclaycard credit card can now access these perks immediately.
How does it work?
Barclaycard credit card holder will have to buy the tickets they want through the Barclaycard website. All discounts will be applied immediately at the point of purchase.
Unfortunately, the discounts only apply to the cost of the ticket and don’t include fees. For instance, a ticket for Saturday 9 June at Download festival would cost £92.50 plus £10.15 in fees. You would receive a 10% discount on the £92.50 only, so it would cost you £93.40 – a saving of £9.25.
To buy food and drink at O2 academy venues, you’ll need to pay with your card and say that you’re a Barclaycard customer. However, while this offer is available at 19 locations across the UK, it is not available at Scottish venues.
Personal Barclaycard credit card holders and Barclaycard Business card (Mastercard) can all access the perks. However, this doesn’t extend to corporate or partner cards.
While the provider doesn’t have every concert listed as a part of the deal, they say you’ll be able to choose from more than 3,500 each year.
The Moneywise verdict
While Barclaycard’s products don’t currently meet our best-buy criteria, its products are nearly there. For instance, the current longest 0% balance transfer cards on the market are all 36 months, while the Barclaycard balance transfer card is 35 months. With fee-free balance transfer cards, the longest is 28 months from Sainsbury’s Bank – Barclaycard offers 25 months.
If you regularly go to concerts and festivals, you could potentially make big savings using these perks. The selection of festivals and concerts is also quite extensive. However, it is slightly disappointing that the discount doesn’t include the fees as these add significant cost on top of basic ticket prices.
