Deal of the week: £10 to spend at Costa Coffee nationwide

27 April 2018

Get £10 to spend at any branch of Costa in Great Britain until the end of August.

What is the deal exactly?

Spend with your Mastercard using the Samsung Pay app on your Samsung phone five times before 30 April and get a £10 voucher to spend at Costa. The voucher will appear in the Samsung Pay app voucher folder and can be redeemed at any branch of Costa in England, Scotland and Wales.

There is also a deal for ‘Fare free Monday’ to get your fares refunded on the Transport for London (TfL) network by using Mastercard on Samsung Pay on Monday, 30 April. The value of travel on offer is worth up to £32.10 depending on what journeys you take. However, there is a £65,000 cap on the fares available so not everyone is guaranteed to get free trips.

Why should I care?

Combined, the offers can be worth up to £42.10. Travelling around London can be expensive, especially if you’re moving through multiples zones.

If you’re buying a takeout coffee, a flat white costs £2.70 in Costa. If you bring your own cup, you’ll get a 25p discount too. This means you can get four flat whites for £10.80, and you’ll only have to spend 80p. That’s almost a week’s worth of caffeine fuelling! You can also buy cakes and sandwiches with your £10 voucher.

Mastercard will also donate five school meals to impoverished children around the world through the World Food Programme for every transaction made using Samsung Pay until 29 April.

What’s the catch?

You’ll need a Samsung smartphone to be able to use the Samsung Pay app. The only banks that offer Samsung Pay with Mastercard are HSBC, John Lewis Partnership, M&S Bank, MBNA, Santander and Danske Bank, so you’ll have to have a Mastercard from one of these providers to get the deal. The Costa coffee deal is not available to Danske Bank customers.

Mastercard is capping the amount of travel refunds it is offering at £65,000. If you apply once the cap is reached, you won’t get a refund.

The travel offer is not available on Thames Clipper River Bus services.

The £10 Costa e-voucher must be used by 31 August 2018 and cannot be redeemed in Northern Ireland.

What are my other options?

As mentioned before, you can get discounts from cafes if you bring your own cup. When the idea of a ‘flat white tax’ was mooted by the government in January, Moneywise did a rundown of the best discounts on offer.

You can also find good discounts on eating out with our round-up of the top cheap eating voucher codes which is updated weekly.

If you’re visiting London, you could buy a Visitor Oyster card in advance, which costs £5 (plus postage) and is pre-loaded with pay-as-you-go credit. With the Visitor Oyster card, you can get special offers and discounts in many London restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.
