Julian Knight, the MP for Solihull and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People has joined the judging panel for the Moneywise Personal Finance Teacher of the Year 2018 competition.

The cross-party group of MPs works with both parliament and the civil service to ensure personal finance education remains high on the political agenda.

Before entering politics, Mr Knight was a personal finance journalist, working for the Independent on Sunday, the BBC and even Moneywise in the early years of his career. As such, financial education is a subject matter close to his heart.

Commenting on the awards, Mr Knight says: “I am thrilled to have been asked to judge this competition. Financial education is often the bedrock to a successful adult life. I am sure all those who enter will be worthy of winning and I am really looking forward to judging entries and working with Moneywise.”

Mr Knight will join Jeff Prestridge, personal finance editor of The Mail on Sunday as well as representatives from the competition sponsor, The Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust, and the Moneywise editorial team.

Today’s announcement coincides with an extension for entries from 31 March to 30 April to enable teachers to enter over the Easter break.

The Moneywise Personal Finance Teacher of the Year competition was established in 2015 to recognise and reward teachers with an outstanding commitment to financial education.

If your children are being taught personal finance well at school, it’s not too late to nominate their teacher. Alternatively, if you are a teacher giving lessons in personal finance you can enter directly.

There are categories for primary and secondary school teachers.
