Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and some of the UK’s biggest restaurant chains are offering discounted menus for couples looking to celebrate together.
What’s the deal exactly?
Valentine’s Day takes place on Wednesday 14 February and many people will be looking to dine out with a loved one. We’ve highlighted some special Valentine’s Day set menu deals at four of the UK’s major restaurant chains:
- Carluccio's – three courses from its special Valentine’s Day menu for £22.95, available until Wednesday 14 February. Example menu; beetroot tortellini, saltimbocca - chicken escalope with prosciutto, roasted potatoes and a white wine sauce, and a passion fruit panna cotta.
- Pizza Express – starter, main course and a drink for £16.95 to £18.95 (depending on restaurant) on Wednesday 14 February only. Example menu; garlic dough balls, American pepperoni pizza and a glass of prosecco.
- Prezzo - any three courses for £19.95, plus 25% off all bottles of prosecco and wine, available from Wednesday 14 February until Sunday 18 February. Example menu; king prawns and garlic bread, chicken carbonara and chocolate fudge cake.
- Zizzi – three courses from its special Valentine’s Day menu for £19.95, available until Saturday 17 February. Example menu; tomato bruschetta, shoulder of lamb, citrus fruits torte.
While the saving you make depends on what items you pick (and items are priced differently in different areas of the country), a savvy dinner can save between £5 and £10 per person compared to the regular menu by choosing wisely.
Why should I care?
Valentine’s Day can be an expensive occasion, so any way to cut down on the cost of eating out is welcome. Make sure you book a table in advance as Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants.
What’s the catch?
Carluccio’s and Zizzi limit you to items from a special Valentine’s Day set menu, but both have a wide range of options depending on your tastes.
If you’re especially cost conscious, you could pick the most expensive menu items to ensure you make the biggest saving.
What other options do I have?
Rather than spending money with one of the chains listed, try local restaurants in your area to see if any are running special Valentine’s Day deals.
Alternatively, many supermarkets are running special dinner deals if you’d prefer to dine at home.
