Deal of the week: Save hundreds on your 2018 holiday

Jet off for less in 2018, with a range of airlines offering discounted flights in their January sales.

What’s the deal exactly?

Several airlines have launched January sales, meaning people can grab a bargain by booking their 2018 flights now.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • British Airways (BA): BA’s January sale runs until 30 January 2018 and includes flights from London Heathrow to Los Angeles, USA for £416 return, compared to the cheapest non-sale price of £539. It also has BA also has flights from London Heathrow to Lima, Peru for £484 return, a huge saving on the cheapest non-sale price of £729.
  • Jet2: Is offering a range of discounted flights while seats last. The price reductions here are smaller than the other airlines but there are still savings to be made. One-way flights between either Edinburgh or Glasgow and Paphos, Cyprus have been reduced from £85 to £77. A one-way flight between Belfast International and Fuerteventura, Spain has been cut from £61 to £55.
  • Norwegian: Has a flight sale on until 15 January 2018. This includes one-way flights between London Gatwick and Singapore for £160, compared to a non-sale cheapest price of £180.
  • Virgin Atlantic: Has a sale running until 8 February 2018. Offers include £308 return flights from Manchester to Boston, USA – a £91 saving compared to the typical cheapest price of £399.

Why should I care?

Many people will be looking to book their 2018 getaways this month, and airlines are fighting for your business. So, if you were planning to book a holiday anyway, now is a good time to check prices.

What’s the catch?

While we have included a range of airlines’ sales, many of the cheapest tickets are not available at peak times, such as school holidays.

Also be warned that research by consumer group Which? found that in some cases prices may be no cheaper in the sale than during the rest of the year.

Make sure you get the best deal by comparing prices using a flight comparison tool, such as Kayak, Momondo or Skyscanner. You can also sign up to newsletters, such as Jack’s Flight Club, which round-up top flight deals across the market.

What other options do I have?

Whether an airline is offering sale prices or not, we would always recommend using a flight comparison service to make sure you get the best deal, as outlined above.

Where can I find out more?

Full details of these sales are available on the British Airways, Jet2, Norwegian and Virgin Atlantic websites.
