Revealed: The top performing commuter hotspots for house price growth

Swanley in Kent has been crowned as the best performing commuter hotspot for property price growth, according to new research.

The findings come from online estate Zoopla, which analysed property price growth in towns within an hour’s commute of Britain’s 10 largest city centres (by economy).

It found Swanley, which is just outside of London, had experienced the largest house price growth in 2017, with prices rising by 10.78% (£36,484), taking the average house price to £375,066.

In second place is Dursley – a town on the outskirts of Bristol - which has seen price growth of 9.71% (£26,339) over the past year taking the average house price to £297,581.

Bromsgrove, which is a half-hour train ride from Birmingham city centre, comes next on the list with 9.61% growth over the past 12 months, taking the average property price to £301,384.

The Midlands dominates the rankings, with three commuter towns close to Birmingham and one near Nottingham in the top 10. In the South of England, only two of London’s commuter towns feature in the top 10 – Swanley and Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.
