Funny money: Fed up of urban living? Rent a room on the river Thames

24 November 2017

If you’re looking for a room to rent that’s a bit out of the ordinary and like to be lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of water lapping against your bedroom walls, then look no further than this vintage sailing barge on the river Thames.

Tim, the owner of this 26-metre boat, is looking for two shipmates to rent out a single and a double cabin..

Located five minutes from Limehouse DLR Station in east London, his barge may be vintage with wood panelling in all the main rooms, but it also has mod-cons including a large kitchen/galley, a huge living room with plenty of sofa space and a traditional dining table, plus bathroom with roll-top bath. It even has its own garden/terrace and you can contact ‘landlubbers’ via the ship’s broadband.

Tim currently has one female shipmate and is looking for another two sailors (male or female) to come on board.

The single cabin is available for £550 a calendar month, while the double cabin is £650 a month, plus a month’s deposit each (excluding bills). Tim will consider short or longer lets and both cabins are available from the beginning of December.
