Shoppers with a Nectar loyalty card can swap 1,000 points for either two pizzas or two cinema tickets until 8 August as part of the brand’s ‘Summer Rewards’.
What’s the deal exactly?
If you’ve collected at least 1,000 points on your Nectar card (worth £5), you can exchange these for two mains at Pizza Express (Classic or Leggera pizzas, pasta dishes, risottos or salads) or for two Vue cinema tickets (2D films across any ticket type eg, adult, child, senior, student and teen).
To get the offer you need to exchange your Nectar points for a Summer Rewards Voucher in selected Sainsbury’s stores, online at nectar.com/summerrewards, or on the Nectar app between now and 11.59pm Tuesday 8 August.
These vouchers can then be redeemed at participating Pizza Express and Vue locations from now until 30 September.
There’s no limit on the number of Summer Rewards Vouchers you can swap your points for – if you have the required 1,000 points each time.
Why should I care?
Nectar is a popular loyalty scheme where you earn points for spending at certain retailers – most notably Sainsbury’s. Here, you earn one Nectar point for every £1 you spend in its supermarkets. Once you have 500 points, these are usually turned into vouchers worth £2.50 to spend in Sainsbury’s. Points can also be turned into vouchers to spend at other qualifying retailers.
So, what this summer deal effectively means is that you’re spending £5 worth of vouchers for two meals or two cinema tickets. Mains at Pizza Express are around £12 so you’re getting about £25 worth of food for a fiver. Cinema tickets at Vue vary by location, but as an example, the Birmingham Vue charges £10.99 for adults – so again, this means you’re getting about £22 worth of cinema tickets for a fiver.
What’s the catch?
To get the deal you need 1,000 Nectar points, which means you’d have to have spent £1,000 at Sainsbury’s, for example. Therefore, it’s only worth collecting Nectar points if you’re planning to shop in its qualifying stores anyway.
You can also only redeem this deal at certain Pizza Express and Vue branches. The London Olympia and Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays restaurants are among those excluded, as is Vue in London’s Leicester Square. See the terms and conditions (available via the link below) for a full list of exclusions.
What other options do I have?
There are plenty of ways to cut cinema costs, including tricks to get 2for1 tickets. See Moneywise’s Seven ways to slash cinema costs for more details. That said, two adult tickets for £5 is a very strong offer.
