A man in Texas resorted to posting written notes begging for help through the receipts dispenser of a cash machine, after becoming trapped during maintenance work.
Police were called to the scene after passers-by found written notes with a cry for help being dispensed instead of receipts.
The man was supposedly trapped for several hours after accidently locking the door behind him, while performing repairs to the machine.
One of the notes read: “Please help I’m stuck in here and I don’t have my phone please call my boss.”
Police senior officer Richard Olden, of Corpus Christi, the town where it occurred commented: “We have a once in a lifetime situation that you will probably never see or hear again."
The officer remarked that passers-by thought it was a joke, until someone took it seriously and called the police.
"We come out here, and sure enough we can hear a little voice coming from the machine. So we are thinking this is a joke. It's got to be a joke," Olden said.
“He leaves his phone in his truck, he's installing a new lock on the door, and he gets locked inside the building where the ATM is.
Olden says: “Everyone is okay, but you will never see this in your life, that somebody was stuck in the ATM, it was just crazy."
The name of the man and the company he worked for were not released. It is believed that police verified the man’s employment with his manager, thanks to the number he scrawled on the note.
