Never be left without cash again. A new app has been launched this week, which can locate more than 70,000 cash machines across the UK.

What’s the deal exactly?

Link – the network which virtually connects all of the UK’s cash machines – has launched an app that allows users to locate their nearest ATM. This isn’t strictly a ‘deal’, but it’s such a good idea that we wanted to let our readers know about it.

The free app offers walking or driving directions to each machine and also lists the full range of services offered. This includes details of the bank which operates the machine, which machines dispense £5 notes, and which ATMs have audio assistance for blind or partially sighted consumers.

It also lists which machines charge a fee to withdraw your money.

Why should I care?

Visiting a new town or city and not being able to find a cash machine can be a frustrating experience, likewise when in rural areas it can be useful to know how far away the next machine is located.

The app is also valuable for people with visual impairments as not all cash machines are accessible, and the app lists which ATMs have audio assistance.

The app itself has also been developed in conjunction with the Thomas Pocklington Trust, which is a national sight loss charity that aims to increase awareness and understanding of the needs of people with impaired vision.

What’s the catch?

There are no real downsides to this app. It is totally free and available on Android phones through Google Play and on Apple products via the App Store.

What other options do I have?

Banks list the address of all their branches and cash machines on their websites, but searching each provider individually is a slow task.

Of course, you can always go down the old fashioned route and simply ask someone who knows the local area well.

Link also runs a desktop version of the app for those using computers.

Where can I find out more?

You can download the app for Android devices through Google Play and for Apple products using the App Store.
