In a tradition that has crossed the Atlantic, Mega or Cyber Monday – which falls on 1 December 2014 – is the day when internet sales are set to soar as millions join the rush to buy from online retailers such as Amazon, eBay and Play.com ahead of Christmas.
The majority of consumers will receive their last pay cheque before Christmas on Friday 28 November and many (if they haven't blown it during Black Friday) will spend the weekend browsing the shops, ready to purchase online on Monday.
Cyber Monday is when many retailers specifically cut online prices for one day only, whereas many of the Black Friday deals on 28 November were in-store only.
New figures from Halifax suggest that the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend is one of the most important for retailers. Last year Black Friday was the second busiest day for spending in the entire year, with around two million more debit card transactions carried out on the day than any other Friday – a 34% increase in spending.
Cyber Monday was the busiest shopping Monday of the year in 2013 (besides Christmas Eve), with it being 24% busier than the average Monday last year.
Major retail event
Anthony Warrington, Director of Halifax Current Accounts, says: "It is often noted that Christmas appears to be starting earlier each year, and the data suggests that this is indeed the case. As UK retailers increasingly adopt the US style Black Friday promotions and discounts, we are starting to see the day after Thanksgiving become a major retail event for us here to."
Online giant Amazon is confident that 1 December will be the busiest day ever for online shopping. Last year more than 4.1 items were ordered through the website on Cyber Monday at a rate of around 47 items per second.
So what deals are out there?
The website is promising that the day will feature hundreds of "lightning deals" which will see offers on a host of items available for a short period of time only.
Argos is offering discounts off a huge range of products until Monday as well as a free £5 voucher when you spend £50 and a free £10 voucher when you spend £100
The healthcare retailer is celebrating Black Friday and Cyber Monday with a wave of deals available for four days from 28 November to 1 December. The best offers include Braun Series 3 - 340s Wet and Dry Electric Shaver at £41.99 instead of £99.99 (saving £58); and a John Frieda Salon Shine 5125BU AC Hairdryer - exclusive to Boots for £29.49 instead of £59.99 (a saving of £30.50).
The telecoms firm is offering 58% off the annual cost of unlimited broadband and weekend calls packages, until 1 December; as well as 49% off the annual cost of its unlimited BT Infinity 1 broadband and weekend calls package. New customers will also receive a £50 Sainsbury's gift card.
The phone shop is currently running a "flash sale" until midnight on Tuesday 2 December on a wide range of phones. Among the best is the Sony Xperia Z3 where you can grab a saving on the upfront cost of £170.
Currys / PC World
The tech store has launched its "black tag" sale which runs until Wednesday 3 December and sees items reduced on a range of tech items.
Cyber Monday will see the store offering a different range of deals to the one that were on offer on Black Friday, with most of them available only via the website.
The online travel shop is offering four- and five-star hotels for £5 a night, as well as flight and hotel city breaks from £69 and 50% off selected spa and gift experiences - until 2 December.
Marks & Spencer
M&S is celebating Black Friday and Cyber Monday with four days of discounts, offering up to 30% off selected items. This includes women's Christmas jumpers for £20 instead of £25, men's moleskin trousers at £24.50 instead of £35, heavily discounted kidswear and even discounts on wine and hampers.
Nectar is offering double points when you make purchases with Debenhams, Disney Store, Game, Gap, House of Fraser, Lego, O2 Mobile and Topshop from 27 November to 5 December. The same deal is on offer at Nike, Next, and Swarovski from 28 November until 5 December.
It's offering triple points at Red Letter Days and Selfridges from 21st November until 5th December. The same deal can be had at Boden, Clarks, Currys, Dorothy Perkins, The Fragrance Shop, PC World, Play.com, Toys R Us, and Virgin Experience Days from 27 November until 5 December; and at Accessorize, Crabtree & Evelyn, Matalan and Monsoon from 28 November to 5 December.
Finally, you can get quadruple points at The Body Shop and Harvey's Furniture from 27 November to 5 December.
The mobile phone firm is promising up to 50% off a "huge range of phones and plans" from 28 November to 1 December.
