Shoppers to spend £342 each this Christmas

Shopping-mad Brits will spend £342 each on presents for their family and friends this Christmas, according to new research. 
Some 40% of people admit they will blow their budget by £70 or more, found.
Just under a third (31%) of shoppers said they would do their best to keep to their budget, with 14% planning on using voucher websites to get the best deals and 12% planning on splurging the cash on Black Friday to save as much cash as possible.
Despite the eye-watering amounts, a quarter (25%) of Brits are actually planning on spending less than they did last year, while 28% are planning on buying for just a select few – 5% of parents will be buying for their children only.
Women will be spoilt more than men with wives receive gifts worth £31 on average, compared to husbands at £25. Mums will receive presents worth £23, while dads will have £18 spent on theirs.
Kids aged three to 12 will be given gifts worth £49.50 on average, while teenagers’ will be worth £43. Poor old grandma and granddad will get presents worth just £8.
Shoppers are increasingly turning their backs on the high street. Half of people (50%) plan to do most of their shopping online, with 58% saying that it is more convenient to shop from the comfort of their own home than it is to head to the shops, while 48% said they did so because they thought they can get their presents cheaper online.
Many Brits are also last-minute shoppers with 31% of women and 34% of men admitting that they do some of their shopping on Christmas Eve.

Don't bust the budget
