TSB abolishes 0845 numbers

26 April 2014

TSB has become the first national bank to replace 0845 numbers with local rate 0345 numbers instead.

Customers can now contact all of the bank's retail and banking services on a local rate number from a landline anywhere in the country without worrying about excessive charges.

According to the bank's research, 82% of Brits avoid calling service providers because of the high charges and 94% of people aren't aware that 0345 numbers are included in inclusive minutes for both landlines and mobile contracts.

Nearly half (44%)of people have been shocked by a big bill after a lengthy phone call with a service provider and 64% now check what calls are included in their payment plan before they call, TSB found.

Peter Navin, managing director of branch and business banking at TSB said "Our customers have told us that high call charges really irritate them, so we decided to tackle the issue head on and set out our commitment to introduce 0345 phone numbers earlier this year.

"Customers can now call us on a local rate number - without worrying about any surprise costs.
"We are always happy to hear from our customers and we hope they will call us on our new 0345 numbers so we can help them with their banking needs, whenever and wherever is convenient for them."

Free 0800 numbers will continue to be used for fraud and complaint issues.
