Low-cost airline Ryanair has delivered "an early Christmas present" to customers by cutting its excess baggage fees by half.
Passengers who fall foul of its weight limits will now pay €10 or £10 per kilogram instead of €20/£20.
The move follows Ryanair's introduction of a range of measures designed to improve its customer service, including allowing people to amend their bookings for up to 24 hours and added cabin baggage allowances.
Ryanair is also now operating "quiet flights", prior to 8am in the mornings and after 9pm in the evenings, when no loud announcements will be made over its in-flight PA system. Moreover, passengers who have checked-in online but forgotten to print out their boarding pass, now pay £15 to have their pass re-issued at the airport, down from £70.
The airline says the cut in excess baggage fees will soon be followed by "new business and family products", a new mobile app and country-specific websites.
Ryanair's Robin Kiely said: "Christmas is traditionally a time when people travel with lots of baggage. As an early Christmas present to our customers, Ryanair is cutting excess baggage fees by 50%. We want to say a very sincere thank you to our 81m passengers and wish them all a very happy Christmas."
However, in a recent poll of almost 1,200 people at moneywise.co.uk, 82% of respondents said they are more likely to fly with Ryanair's rivals, despite its recent customer service revamp.
Over a third (37%) said they would be more likely to fly British Airways and 28% would go for EasyJet. However, the 17% that voted for Ryanair beats the 9% that would opt to fly with Jet2 and the 5% that would choose Flybe.
Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary would no doubt be more delighted that just 4% of Moneywise readers said they would prefer to fly with Ryanair's arch rival Aer Lingus.
