eBay and Argos team up for 'click and connect'

25 September 2013

Shoppers buying from selected eBay merchants can now pick up their orders from Argos stores across the UK.

As part of a six-month trial some 50 eBay merchants will be enabling their customers to order their goods online and collect them at a time of their convenience from one of a network of 150 Argos stores.

The retailers claim the scheme will address a growing demand for a variety of delivery methods. While courier services are convenient if you are at home all day, few of us enjoy queuing up at post offices or depots to pick up our parcels at the weekend.

John Walden, managing director at Argos, said: "With the continuing growth of online shopping, customers increasingly expect faster, cheaper and more convenient fulfillment of their orders."

According to the Econsultancy Online Shopping Survey, some 40% of UK shoppers used click and collect services last Christmas and Argos's own click and collect service already accounts for a third of its business.

The scheme may also challenge Amazon's locker service, which allows shoppers to pick up goods they've ordered online from local convenience stores.
