There is good news for shoppers, as new research has shown that haggling at your favourite high street chain can work - with some shops giving discounts to four in five people who ask for a better price.
You are most likely to receive discounts on big-ticket items such as furniture, electricals, cars and equipment, according to the research by moneysavingexpert.com.
B&Q, Currys and PC World topped the list as the best places to haggle, with 78% of customers gaining a discount when they asked in stores.
Even John Lewis, and supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's had a success rate of over 50% when shoppers tried to haggle.
Shoppers in Boots stores reported the most failures when trying to haggle, with only 21% gaining any discounts. Apple stores came a close second, with hagglers reporting a 72% failure rate. Still, it means that 28% got a better price on their tech gear.
