From today, the Post Office will have mortgage specialists in some of its branches as it attempts to become a serious contender in the mortgage market.
Seven mortgage specialists will initially be available in Birmingham, Solihull, Walsall, Luton and Norwich, with plans for more advisers to be introduced at larger branches across the country throughout the rest of the year.
Up until now Post Office customers have only been able to purchase mortgages online or over the phone. But the new mortgage specialists will help customers purchase a mortgage in branch.
"We understand that taking out a mortgage is one of the most important financial decisions you have to make.
"Finding the right one can be a complex process and this is one of the reasons why we have introduced our specially trained mortgage specialists to assist our customers through the process," says Mike Cook, head of Post Office mortgages.
However, these mortgage specialists will only be talking people through the Post Office’s mortgage range and not advising them on what is available on the broader market.
