Hi Canarius,
I really think that some people are born good with money, whereas others aren't. I fall into the latter category, and would much rather get a round in at the pub if it was my last £20 that take my own beer on a night out.
I think they make complaints procedures purposely complicated so you give up and don't bother. When i attempted to complain over the phone with O2 I got passed around to half a dozen people, none of whom could help - it was like they doing it on purpose. It worked and in the end i did give up...
hi roraima,
From what I know, I would say investment trusts are a good bet in the current economic climate. Despite them being higher risk than other collective investmens - because they use gearing it means the managers can borrow money to take advantage of stocks that are currently...
It depends on how desperate you are to move really, and how much less the current offer is than your asking price.
I doubt very much that the market's going to crash, but it's definitely leveling off at the moment so it may be wise to snap up the offer while it's there,...
Moneymole - that sounds a little too much like a marketing spin for Zopa! Do you work for them or something?
I'd like to hear about people's experiences with lending and borrowing through Zopa, but I'm sure Selboy would agree this 'advert' isn't that helpful!
Hi max, I've heard from a friend that First Direct offer a pretty good offset mortgage - you pay the base rate during 2008, reverting to first direct's standard variable rate in January 2009. There's also no arrangement fee to pay if you are bringing transfering your mortgage from another lender...
Yes the rates to convert back tend to be pretty meagre! I usually to check three rates before I change currency - Travelex, the POst Office and Marks and Spencer because they are pretty consistent in offering the best and buy back commission free.
I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for banking if i actually got something in return, because at the moment i don't.
I think customer service needs to improve dramatically in the uk if people are going to accept being charged. I've had frequent problems with natwest - it's mistakes have...

I naturally find it quite difficult to save,...

Thank you, yes that helps.
Do you know it'll be possible to split the tax-free allowance between ISAs?
I completely agree we should share our experiences of companies, good and bad, but am I right to take from your comments that you do work for Zopa?!
