Three in ten grandparents say there’s no downside to looking after grandkids

Granddad and grandchild

Half of parents rely on their own parents to look after their children, but three in ten grandparents say there’s no downside to looking after grandkids.

According to the latest poll of Moneywise.co.uk users, when asked “What do you like least about looking after grandchildren?”, 31% said there is no downside.

However, of the 797 people who voted, a further 33% said there is a downside.

Just over one in ten (11%) said it takes up all of their time, 10% said they have a long way to travel to see them, while 5% said the cost of looking after grandkids is their biggest sticking point.

A further 7% said their grandkids are out of control.

The poll, which ran between 27 September and 4 October, also reveals that 8% of grandparents don’t look after their children’s offspring, while 25% don’t have grandkids in the first place.
