EE brand to remain following BT takeover

EE customers won’t see any change to their contract or prices for now, as new owner BT confirms the mobile brand will remain.

Telecoms giant BT, which became the official owner of EE on Friday 29 January, says it will retain the EE brand, network and its hundreds of high street stores.

It adds that it will serve these customers with “advanced” mobile, broadband and TV services, and says that despite the takeover, there’s no change for customers.

Prices and contracts remain the same, while customers should continue to contact EE’s customer services about any issues.

BT’s £12.5 billion acquisition of EE brings together the UK’s largest fixed telecoms business and the UK’s largest mobile telecoms business.

The deal was given the seal of approval by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in January, despite concerns raised by customers and other UK operators about the impact on competition – see the EE takeover by BT approved for more on this.

BT customers are also unaffected by the acquisition with the provider continuing to serve its users with broadband, home phone, TV and mobile services.

Group chief executive, Gavin Patterson, says: "I’m delighted we have now completed our acquisition of EE. That is great news for our shareholders, our customers and for UK plc given we will continue to invest and innovate.”
