Petrol prices plummet at Asda
Despite intentions to shun this year’s Black Friday, the supermarket will treat customers anyway this weekend by knocking 4p off unleaded petrol, driving the cost down to 99.7p a litre. Diesel drivers can fill up for 103.7p a litre.
Andy Clarke, Asda’s chief executive said: “We’re adding a further boost by investing in a three-day fuel price drop meaning drivers can now benefit … in the crucial run-up to the festive period.”
The AA says average petrol prices have consistently been above a pound since October 2007.
Edmund King, president of the AA, added: "Drivers filling up at Asda will get a temporary fillip as pump prices fall below one pound for three days.
“Black Friday will help to put a smile on some driver’s faces but unfortunately the Groundhog Day feeling of seeing £1 per litre will be short-lived when the sub pound pump prices pass the pound mark again next week. Apart from marketing gimmicks pump prices haven't been below £1 per litre for five and a half years."
Asda’s promotion is a further boost for drivers who saw fuel duty frozen in the 2015 Budget. Clarke called for the freeze to be extended into 2016.
