Prague best value destination for 2015
The Czech capital of Prague has emerged as the best-value holiday spot for 2015.
A basket of tourist staples including a meal for two, drinks and suntan lotion costs just £35.29 a day, knocking last year's hotspot Bali into fifth place with a typical daily spend of £36.80.
A combination of the strong pound and falling prices across the Eurozone have helped Prague and seven other European destinations into the top 10 best value places to visit in 2015, according to the Post Office's worldwide holiday cost barometer.
Just behind the Czech capital was Europe's best-value beach resort, the Algarve, where a day's R&R set travellers back £36.04. Sunny Beach in Bulgaria took third place with a daily cost of £36.14.
Overall, the research found that prices had fallen in two-thirds of the European countries surveyed, with prices in Crete falling by more than 19% in the past 12 months to £41.74.
Better value than ever
Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money said: "There is currently little difference in resort costs between the Algarve, Sunny Beach and the Costa del Sol, which are cheapest in Europe, but keep an eye on Crete and Cyprus where falls in the cost of eating out make these islands better value than ever before."
If you are thinking of heading further afield, while knocked off the topspot overall, Bali remains the best-value long haul resort. South Africa's Cape Town comes second at £42.96 a day and Colombo in Sri Lanka is third at £48.30 a day.
The most expensive destinations were Singapore (£149.65), Jumeriah Beach in Dubai (£144.50) and New Zealand's Auckland (£126.70).
Andrew said: "Holidaymakers travelling to Europe in the coming year can look forward to better value-for-money, although they should still do their homework to ensure they don't miss out on the best deals."
