HMV vouchers accepted by independent record store
An independent record store in Kingston upon Thames is single-handedly trying to cheer up music fans mourning the loss of HMV.
As Deloitte puts the music and film retailer's affairs in order after it went into administration on Tuesday, customers with HMV gift cards and vouchers have been told they will not be honoured.
To help those caught out, Banquet Records is now offering a 50% discount in store to anyone with a valid HMV gift card or voucher.
Jon Tolley, manager at Banquet Records, says: "We're very aware and sad that people are looking at losing their jobs and we're concerned about the effect HMV's possible closure may have on physical releases in general.
"However, one gripe many have is the current situation where gift cards are no longer valid at HMV. Whatever happened, it's certainly no fault of the person who got someone a Christmas gift, and it's unfair on someone to not be able to use their credit.
"We wanted to find a way to make these gift tokens valid at our stores."
He adds that he wanted people to see that it's not all doom and gloom in music retail.
The offer runs until Sunday 20 January. For more information visit banquetrecords.com.
