Tesco launches BOGOF... later
Tesco has launched its first buy-one-get-one-free later deal to help families reduce food waste.
For the next two weeks, customers buying selected fruit and salad items will be able to claim the same product free the following week.
“Customers really like our buy-one-get-one-free deals but feedback shows smaller households sometimes can't use the free product before its use by date,” says Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco’s executive director.
“Now we're giving customers the flexibility to take advantage of the great value offer by claiming their free product the following week instead.”
Customers buying eligible items will be given a voucher at the till. They can then use this voucher to get another pack of the product for free the following week.
Sainsbury’s launched a BOGOF-later scheme last November, on nappies and white baguettes. The promotion afforded customers two weeks to redeem their voucher, but limited the number of nappy packs and baguette sticks to four per customer per transaction.
Tesco’s trial promotion will include pineapple chunks and melon this week and salad and lettuce next week in selected UK stores. Depending on customer feedback, Tesco says it will consider how to roll out the offer to other lines and a wider range of stores.
