Deadline looms for winter fuel payment
People aged 60 and over could face higher energy bills if they fail to meet the looming deadline to claim their winter fuel payment.
If you were aged between 60 and 79 before 23 September 2007 then you could receive a payment of £200 from the government to help with the cost of heating your home. If you were aged 80 or over you could get up to £300.
Although the government made winter fuel payments automatically before Christmas, pensions minister Mike O’Brien says people who haven’t yet received a payment but think they are eligible should make a claim as soon as possible.
Eligible people have until 30 March to make their claim. You can either contact the office that normally pays your benefit or the winter fuel payment hotline on 08459 15 15 15.
You can also download a claims form from The Pension Service website.
