?This measures the standard deviation of a fund's excess returns over the returns of an index or benchmark portfolio. As such, it can be an indication of 'riskiness' in the manager's investment style. A Tracking Error below 2 suggests a passive approach. Information ratio
?This is a useful risk-adjusted measure of actively managed fund performance. It is calculated by deducting the returns of the fund's benchmark from the fund's overall returns, then dividing the result by its tracking error. The higher the Information Ratio the better. Matthew Johnson06/05/2013Matthew Johnson, Executive Director, is the Americas Portfolio Manager in the Global Real Estate, Global Multi-Managers team within UBS Global Asset Management. Matthew joined UBS Global Asset Management in May 2008 as the US Portfolio Manager in the Global Real Estate Multi-Managers team. He is responsible for structuring portfolios for the Global Multi-Manager mandates, in accordance with the investment strategy for the US region. In addition, Matthew is also involved in the marketing of Global Multi-Managers products and services to the client base in the US region. Prior to joining UBS in May 2008, Matthew was a Vice President at The Townsend Group from 2004 to 2008, where he was the lead underwriter for Asian real estate investment opportunities and global real estate securities. Before this, Matthew was an Investment Counselor at Fisher Investments from 2001 to 2004, where he was responsible for managing relationships with high net worth clients and assisted in developing bespoke portfolios. He is a graduate of New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business where he gained an MBA and the University of Iowa.
