Fund objective
The investment objective of the RHFS Diversified Strategy Fund is to achieve long term capital growth. The fund intends to meet its objectives through exposure to a combination of equities, fixed interest and structured products. The majority of the fund's exposure will be to equities. It may also have exposure to property. With the exception of structured products, this exposure will be through investment in OEICs, unit trusts, investment trusts, Exchange Traded Funds and other collective investment schemes across several management groups. It may also invest in equities from the world's major markets, bonds and other transferable securities. The Fund has no specific limits on exposures to any asset class, geographic area, industry or economic sectors.

?Volatility (or standard deviation), when applied to an investment fund, expresses its risk. It shows how widely a range of returns varied from the fund's average return over a particular period. For example, if a fund had an average return of 5%, and its volatility was 15, this would mean that the range of its returns over the period had swung between +20% and -10%.

Tracking error
?This measures the standard deviation of a fund's excess returns over the returns of an index or benchmark portfolio. As such, it can be an indication of 'riskiness' in the manager's investment style. A Tracking Error below 2 suggests a passive approach. At 3 and above the the manager will be deploying a more active investment style.

Information ratio
?This is a useful risk-adjusted measure of actively managed fund performance. It is calculated by deducting the returns of the fund's benchmark from the fund's overall returns, then dividing the result by its tracking error. The higher the Information Ratio the better. It is generally considered that a figure of 0.5 reflects a good performance, 0.75 very good, and 1.00 outstanding.

Doug Millward05/05/2015Doug joined Lowes Financial Management in June 1996, and has held many roles within the company, including an extended period in the IT Department, where he was instrumental in developing Lowes' proprietary investment analysis software. Throughout his time he has maintained an active role in the investment side of the company, building up a series of qualifications in the process. He moved into the investment department full time in April 2010 and has worked on managing the strategy since its launch.
Paul Milburn05/05/2015Paul has been with Lowes Financial Management since May 2013. Before that Paul was Assistant Corporate Treasurer for an insurance company where he co-managed the investment assets of the company and its defined benefit pension scheme for over ten years. This has given Paul a wealth of experience in conducting fund research, analysing investment products and constructing portfolios.
