Tracking error
?This measures the standard deviation of a fund's excess returns over the returns of an index or benchmark portfolio. As such, it can be an indication of 'riskiness' in the manager's investment style. A Tracking Error below 2 suggests a passive approach. At 3 and above the the manager will be deploying a more active investment style.

Information ratio
?This is a useful risk-adjusted measure of actively managed fund performance. It is calculated by deducting the returns of the fund's benchmark from the fund's overall returns, then dividing the result by its tracking error. The higher the Information Ratio the better. It is generally considered that a figure of 0.5 reflects a good performance, 0.75 very good, and 1.00 outstanding.

Paul Girault10/11/2014Paul is a graduate of EM Lyon and is also a qualified accountant, having earned a DECF diploma. After spending two years as a financial analyst with HMG Finance, Paul joined Alpha Associés, a private equity venture, where he analysed LBO projects covering medium-sized companies. In 2004 he became an independent consultant, and worked on various acquisition projects. In 2006 he returned to HMG Finance and became co-manager of the HMG Globetrotter Fund in 2009. Paul is based in Paris.
Marc Girault10/11/2014Marc is a graduate from the Paris School of Business Administration (ESCP). He is also a French chartered accountant, having earned a DECS diploma and has a Masters Degree in Business Law. From 1980 to 1983, Marc was responsible for foreign client relations at the French stockbrokers Goy-Hauvette. From 1983 to 1985, he was in charge of financial analysis for French companies at the Société Générale Merchant Bank in London. Then, from 1985 to 1991, he was Director of International Client relations at Fauchier-Magnan, Durant des Aulnois, a Paris based stockbroker. In May 1991 he joined HMG Finance as one of the founders and as a Board Member, in charge of investment. Marc is based in London at Goodhart Partners' offices.
