?This measures the standard deviation of a fund's excess returns over the returns of an index or benchmark portfolio. At 3 and above the the manager will be deploying a more active investment style.

Information ratio
?This is a useful risk-adjusted measure of actively managed fund performance. It is calculated by deducting the returns of the fund's benchmark from the fund's overall returns, then dividing the result by its tracking error. The higher the Information Ratio the better. It is generally considered that a figure of 0.5 reflects a good performance, 0.75 very good, and 1.00 outstanding.

Simon Bond04/12/2013Simon Bond joined the company in 2003 as an Investment Grade Credit portfolio manager. He manages the Threadneedle UK Social Bond Fund and a wide range of retail, institutional and wholesale credit bond funds. He has taken a keen interest in the social investment space, having analysed and invested in this space for many years. Simon is particularly passionate about the role of infrastructure in both economic growth and regeneration. Prior to joining the company, he managed £6 billion in his role as the Senior UK Credit fund manager for AXA. Simon has also worked for GE Insurance as a portfolio manager, Provident Mutual as a Fixed Income analyst specialising in corporate bonds and Hambros Bank as an Investment Accountant and Pension Fund Investment Administrator. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
