offsettable against tax?

i am self employed and am keen to get some kind of illness protection in case i am unable to work. is this offsettable against my personal tax liability?

I don’t think it is possible for your to offset illness protection against your personal tax liability, and being self employed you may find it hard to get cover in case you cannot work. There are a few providers out there for you but always make sure you read the small print - you will often have to have been working for six months before applying. For sickness you will have to be in receipt of short term incapacity benefit from the JobCentre, and you won’t receive your first payment for 30 days. Also remember that if you claim for unemployment you will need to provide evidence that your business has stopped trading or is in the process of being put into insolvency. Hope this helps
