Bank Charges
I completely agree stshar. The whole reason there is a credit crunch in the first place is because people have been living off money that is not theirs for far too long. Great. Thanks for that. i never go overdrawn and i always live within my means. In fact I actually try and save each month to make sure that should I ever be out of work I can rely on myself.
But no, we subsidise the feckless, we punish pensioners, reward people who bought houses outright with money that was not theirs - 100% for christ sake. I agree with bank charges if it means I can bank for free.
And as a 40 year old father of 2 I teach my kids a simple message. You want it? You save for it. Well said stshar.

I never go overdrawn either but that has not stopped my bank from doing it for me by their own banking errors then trying to not give the fees back to me. With this in mind I think the fees are much too high.

I agree with your comments to an extent, people need to take responsibility for themselves and should teach the same to the next generation. My outgoings rarely exceed my incomings and I have paid off my mortgage and I have a pension and other savings.
However, the charges are too high. Recently, I became overdrawn by 1 day by £26. While I readily admit that it was my silly mistake, I am being charged £30 for it. When banks make mistakes, and they do make quite a number, I don't charge them £30 for writing or visiting them to tell them so on every occasion. The contract goes both ways, they have charges but I expect good service in return which I can't say I am getting.
It does make me work hard at not becoming overdrawn again though. Once bitten and all that...

Why I ask?
All you hear about is unfair bank charges, people being charge high amouts for going overdrawn.
These people should consider the agreement that they enter into with the provider, there charges are listed if you go overdrawn.
Why should anyone get these charges back? They have caused the problems, these people need to get their act together, and not trying to get out what they have already agreed.
People keep moaning and groaning, so dont spend beyond your means, this is why we have the credit crunch now, if you make a mistake you have to pay for it.
We will now all end up paying more, even you who cannot manage your own accounts will pay more, I just hope these people feel pleased with them selves, it will only last for a little while until you get the next lot of charges.
I expect next you will not want to pay for food in the supermarket as the price has gone up by too much and it is now unfair, or Insurance, or anything you buy
It is about time someone said NO, and not give in to these people who want something for nothing, this Country would be a much better place if we said NO more often
