The January 2009 sales look set to offer some of the best deals we've seen in recent years as the credit crunch forces shops to slash their prices.

Whether you're the early-bird that catches the worm, or simply adept at haggling down the price, we want to know all your tips on bagging a bargain.

It's not even the January sales yet but I managed to get £150 knocked off a new Sony HD widescreen TV! It was ex-display, but looked fine. Now my boyfriend can watch his HD DVDs and play his playstation in 42" to his heart's content, can't wait to see his face on Xmas morning. Lovely old job.

I got an HUGE bargain in the World Of Linens sale this week! I bought nearly £800 worth of bed linens, towels, kitchen ware etc for just £130 inc. delivery! Absolutely amazing!!!

Bargains are for life not just for January! If you always shop around then there are plenty of bargains to be had, and even once you have found the lowest price ask for a cheeky discount. But if you are a gadget freak like me who has to have the latest technology as soon as its released then John Lewis is often a good bet as they price match. Last summer I bought a new TV within weeks of it hitting the market for £600 with a 5 year warranty by price matching a store the other end of the country when everyone else locally wanted £900 for the same TV with only 2 years warranty.

Hi, you made a great saving but I fear that you might lose out in the longer term. We brought an ex-display surround sound TV & Video system a few years ago, and because the TV was on in the show room everyday from 9 - 5, the DVD lasted only 12 months (just outside warrenty), then a few months later the TV needed a new tube because the colors on the TV were all orange, which cost a lot of money. Overall we lost out big time because we had to replace the video, couldnt use the surround sound anymore and had to pay for the TV repair. it really wasnt worth the initial savings. Hopefully things will be better for you because flat screens cant be repaired at all and have very short life spans (so i have heard).
