Goodbye Norwich Union

Wed, 30/04/2008 - 14:06

Like Midland Bank, Marathon bars and Opal Fruits, the Norwich Union brand is to be consigned to the dustbin of history as part of Aviva's drive to introduce autonomous branding worldwide.

But will it be missed? Is it time for the 200-year-old brand to be refreshed, or do you think this is a case of 'don't fix what's not broken'?

Let us know what you think...

Need i remind you of the fate of Coco Krispies?
In case you don't remember, Kellogg's thought it would be a fine idea to rebrand Coco Pops as Coco Krispies in 1998 much to the distress of children and adults across the UK - the main reason being the theme tune doesn't work to the lyrics "I'd rather have a bowl of Coco Krispies" !!!
Of course the outcry was so intense that Kellogg's bowed to pressure and brought back Coco Pops. They even managed to make the whole thing into a PR stunt, but asking people to vote for the name they preferred.
The Norwich Union brand is a bit dusty but Aviva doesn't exactly roll off your tongue. Maybe it won't even stick - I bet I,m not the only person who still calls the cleaning product Jif as opposed to its rebranded name Cif.

Many Insurer brands have already been confined to the dustbin of course - General Accident (previously Yorkshire General!), Eagle Star, Provincial, Guardian Royal Exchange, National Employers Mutual - to name but a few.

Some say the ABI will soon stand for the "Association of Both Insurers" cos that's all there'll be left!

Hope I typed this in the right box?!
