HSBC intending to charge £15 pm for 'current' a/c - Changing my bank
Hi Wirral - It might be a case of 'better the devil you know' - you will have a history with your current bank which may come in useful in an emergency - a new bank won't know you so if you needed an emergency overdraft then you might be out of luck. If its the same HSBC deal im thinking off then you do get discounts on other things which may equate to £180.00

I don't agree with Bankomatic about staying with HSBC, it doesn't work like that anymore. Its all done by credit ratings and if "Computer says no" tough! The days of building up a relationship with a bank branch and its manager have long gone.
I'd move.

The benefits of this 'new' Bank Account are ...( WOW )..........."no charge for Managing Your Money Services; stopping a cheque ; special presentation of a cheque; receiving more than one paper statement or ordering a paper statement"..... these are hardly worth £15 per month ( and who is using this amount of monthly cheques these days ?).
I own my house outright and (fortunately) always in the black ( just spending on what I can afford etc )
Sadly, no, need to move on from HSBC, so hoping for readers personal recommendations for a change of bank or perhaps bulding society etc

I received a booklet from HSBC recently stating that if I pay in more than £2,500 over six months into my current a/c then they will automatically cancel my current account and open a Bank Account for me ( whether I want to or not !!). Further on in the booklet ( of 31 pages ! ) they state that there is a fee for the new Bank Account of £15 pm !!! In other words, rail roading me and most other a/c holders into paying for my account ( £180 per year ). I'm not interested in opinions of rights and wrongs re this but after 39 years with the same bank it is now time to move on.
I want to find a friendlier (if that is the right phrase ) bank and one that doesn't charge for a current account, sorry, Bank Account ( it doesn't matter if I don't get any interest ) so can anyone recommend such a bank?
Oh and people that don't pay enough into the HSBC to qualify for a 'Bank Account' will probably be having their current account terminated as well - so they'd better start looking around as well !!
Thanks, in advance :-)
