Transferring money to a foreign account
just come across your question, Richard and hope that you have found an answer. I doubt that things have changed!
However, our dear Royal Mail seem to be offering to send currency free of charge (presumably made up in a less favourable exchange rate). Try the link, in case you need it again this year. If not, search their site for international transfers

I have a similar problem trying to get money transferred here from France - charges at both ends.

I need to send small amounts of money to a European banks (to confirm reservations at B&Bs). Typically it's only thirty euros or so I need to send but my banks want to charge me between £8 and £20. Any tips?
